And, now I know it’s kinda not my fault. Kinda.
Findings from a new study suggest that some fats cause our brains to turn off the “I’m full” signal that tells us when to stop eating.
Here’s what they think happens: we eat the fat, it goes to our brains. Once they get there, the fat [...]

I just found a very interesting interview about sustainable food on NPR’s Science Friday. Author James McWilliams has just written a book called Just Food: Where Locavores Get It Wrong and How We Can Truly Eat Responsibly. In the book, McWilliams claims that eating locally is not the “best” way to be a responsible conservator [...]

Having struggled with my weight for almost my entire life, I understand how painful it can be when someone just assumes the following about you because you are overweight:
You are lazy
You are stupid
You are ugly
You have no self-control
You smell
You are worthless
You deserve no consideration or respect
You are not a human being
I’ve been the recipient of [...]

I’m seriously considering becoming a vegetarian. I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and there is a long list of pro-vegetarian reasons why. There is also a long list of reasons why I probably couldn’t/shouldn’t.
PRO: A vegetarian diet is healthier than a carnivorous diet. I know this intuitively to be true for me (I’m not [...]

As a service to my (5) readers, I’m posting a couple food recalls that may be of interest. Just another horrific entry in my Diary of the Unsafe US Food Supply (informaiton courtesy www.recalls.gov):
Unilever United States, Inc. is voluntarily recalling Knorr® Kosher Soup Mix – Chicken Vegetable Flavor with Pasta imported from Israelbecause it contains undeclared [...]
Coconut Lovin’

I am a big fan of coconut cream pie…but alas it is probably among the worst things you can eat: egg yolks, heavy cream, pastry dough, coconut, whipped cream, etc. I was jonesing HARD for a coconut fix, so I had to try to come up with a healthy alternative to this heavenly dessert. I believe I have [...]

Perhaps I should have a better attitude about this.
On Friday, I was meeting with my friend Gail at her office, which happens to be the office I worked in a few years back. She was telling me how she and a couple of my former co-workers started a weight-loss challenge. Here’s how they do it: [...]
