The Schenectady Greenmarket moved outdoors for the season today…what a day! I was there with an info table about Schenectady County’s Bicentennial Celebration, and had a great vantage point for all the action.

A great band was on hand – Running the River. Terrific music! Mostly folk, with a few twists thrown in: U2, Tommy Tutone (yes, you read that right), and The Kingston Trio. I heard them say they’ll be playing at Ravenswood in the near future, so I think I’ll go check them out again.
There were also some morris dancers who performed every hour or so. I had never seen morris dancers before. Not my cup of tea. Let’s just leave it at that.

As always, the market had some great vendors: Saratoga Peanut Butter, Dancing Ewe Farm (cheese purveyors to a few of Mario Batali’s places), The Red Barn, Buddhapesto…and those are just the few I got to visit! There were lots more that I didn’t get to because I was so busy all day. They got a great crowd! I don’t have any pics of the crowds – again, too busy!
I can’t wait to go again next week, and be a customer again! I’m so glad we have something like this in Schenectady – it’s obviously something our community NEEDED. Everyone is happy, spending money, and buying local. What more could you want??
I agree with you about the Morris Dancers 🙂
I am loving the Greenmarket as well!
I want to go down to the Hudson-Chatham Winery for a wine tasting. I tried their wine at the indoor market and my aunt bought some for my mom for Xmas.
We should make a day of it sometime!
